National Grants Survey Gets Excellent Response

September 2010

More than 130 individual community colleges and community college systems participated in a national grants survey that ended on September 10. The survey was designed to identify specific factors that affect college and system grant acquisition performance. Additional findings will include characteristics associated with the colleges most successful in securing competitive grants, such as the amount of money raised from grants, percentage of awards received, factors contributing to success, as well as the challenges faced in developing successful proposals.

The survey was funded by the Clements Group and developed with the assistance of a team of grants professionals including:

  • Christine Anderson, Senior Vice President, the Clements Group
  • Mary Brumbach, Executive District Director, Strategic Funding, Dallas County Community College District
  • Dr. Steven G. Budd, President, River Valley Community College
  • Neil Herbkersman, Senior Director of Advancement, Sinclair Community College
  • Mark Hundley, Systems Office Grant Writer, Kentucky Community and Technical College System
  • Elaine Ironfield, Senior Vice President, The Clements Group
  • Clark Townsend, Senior Consultant, The Clements Group

Results of the survey will be presented at the Council for Resource Development (CRD) National Conference Friday, November 5 from 3:15 pm to 4:30 pm in a session titled: Grants A National Perspective, A Local Solution. Additionally, a white paper covering survey results will be distributed by CRD to its members and to survey participants.
