Zane State College is Awarded Dominion Resources, Inc. Grant

October 2011 – Zanesville, Ohio

Zane State College announced it has received a higher education grant from Dominion Resources, Inc. The $30,000 grant will support the college's alternative energy programs and was gifted by the Dominion Foundation, the company's charitable arm.

The Dominion Foundation awards approximately $1 million in higher educational partnership grants throughout Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia and in targeted localities in New England, Maryland and North Carolina. The foundation awarded between $10,000 and $30,000 to eight Ohio Colleges. Zane State College is one of three colleges to receive a $30,000 grant.

"Dominion is privileged to support college-level learning," said Virginia M. Board, president of the Dominion Foundation. "We are particularly interested in funding action-oriented projects that produce results in energy conservation, preservation of the environment and programs that prepare a workforce that is knowledgeable about changing aspects of the energy arena."

The college announced the funds will be used to purchase training equipment to help students better understand how to secure safe, reliable and accurate measurements in exploration, development and distribution of natural gas once they are on the job.

"This is the right grant at the right time since we recently introduced our new Natural Gas and Engineering Technology program," said Dr. Paul Brown, president of Zane State College. "The grant will enhance our current efforts to expand our curriculum so we can continue to meet the needs of the changing workforce." Zane State College's Natural Gas and Engineering Technology program is the only one of its kind in the state, providing a unique chance for southeast Ohioans to obtain credentials needed for good employment opportunities within the region.
